Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Johnny Cepeda Gogo obtained a WWII era, 48-star American flag with the goal of inviting ALL Japanese American incarceration camp incarcerees and Nisei veterans to sign the flag. Johnny made his third trip to the Seattle area last month to visit Nisei veterans Junks Ikeda, Shig Otani, and Kim Muromoto to sign the eighth and ninth flags. Also signing the flags in this visit was Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, whose mother was incarcerated in Minidoka with her family.
442nd RCT veteran Kimitomo Muromoto, who turned 100 in January 2023, looked on as Mayor Harrell signed his mother’s name on the flag.
