George Etsu Takahashi
April 15, 1925 – February 22, 2023
George "Ets" Takahashi was born on April 15, 1925, in Wapato, WA to Kazuto and Umayo Takahashi, and passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2023. He was a gentle soul, always smiling and had a heart of gold. He attended Tri-State High School while incarcerated at Tule Lake, and received his honorary diploma from Ogden HS in Ogden, UT in 1944 prior to his entry into the military. He was a member of the highly decorated 442nd Regimental Combat Team Co. K serving in Italy, England, Scotland, and France. "Go For Broke!"
Ets met Toshi in the "pea patch" picking peas together, where he would leave sweet notes for her to find at the end of her rows. They married in 1951 and had 68 wonderful years together. His career with the US Postal Service spanned 38 years while also working after retirement for Becker Trucking. But gardening was his passion, and he was still mowing his lawn and growing flowers and veggies at the age of 97! He was the biggest Mariners and Seahawks fan, and he never missed watching their games and cheering them on.
Ets was preceded in death by his parents; brothers James, Nobi, Paul, Mon; and sisters Toyo Ishio and Kazue Takano. He is survived by his sister Carol Fujimoto; daughter Susan Taketa; sons Steve and Tom (Summer) Takahashi; grandchildren Brian Taketa, Tiffany (Josh) Shadbolt, Jason (Jaclyn) Taketa; and great grandson Theo. He was also "Uncle Ets" to many loving nieces and nephews. Remembrances may be made to the Seattle Nisei Veterans Committee or Densho.
