NVC Foundation President's Column

by Geri Lynne Egeler
June 2022, Volume 73, Issue 6

We had a very successful Memorial Day service, in person, at the Lake View cemetery last month.  It was well attended, and we appreciate all who came out to honor our heroic Japanese American veterans.  Also, many thanks to Bob Kiga, who organized the event once again.

The excitement is building among the new Foundation Board for 2022 -- there is so much happening!  This year we have an active and hardworking slate of Board members, who are re-organizing our existing Committees and starting new Committees.  Shawn Brinsfield is working to update our organizational policies and is the Board liaison for all Committees.

Tana Watanabe is organizing a Public Relations/Social Media Committee, David Suguro and Jay Deguchi are working on some fun fundraising activities, and Judy Masuda is working together with students on creating an educational video.  Les and Denise Inaba are planning for the Mardi Gras party later this year.

I’m also pleased to report that Shina Kashino and Derek Ishihara are coordinating some new activities that will draw interest from the younger generation of Foundation members.

The NVC Hall is also opening to the general public.  This month, we hosted students from Ballard High and Marysville Getchell High Schools who toured our facility.

We are in the process of designing our new challenge coins that will feature our logo on the front and considering a replica of the Memorial Wall on the back.

And finally, the NVC Foundation is collaborating with the NVC to conduct combined Board meetings and Membership meetings in the upcoming future. Stay tuned for more news about this collaboration.  This month, our June meetings will be held on June 24 at 6:00 pm.  Looking forward to seeing you there!
