We can sure use your help with a few projects. Most can be done at home, at NVC Memorial Hall, or just about any other place that has Wi-Fi capability. We’re in need of volunteers who can do some online research, document scans, simple filing, and regular tidying-up (e.g., dusting, restocking, etc.) of various spots in the Hall that merit quarterly, bi-yearly, or yearly maintenance.
One new project involves capturing the biographies of Nisei veterans buried at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery (EWC). It has become tradition to place US flags at the gravesites of Americans of Japanese ancestry interred at EWC. We would like to hand the Scouts a small binder with information about the veteran they are honoring when they place the flag at their gravesite. These men and women did more than serve in uniform, and we’d like to take this time of reflection to know a bit more about what they did in our community after uniformed service. If you’re interested in helping, please let me know! We calculate that this will take a little over a year to complete the initial binder. Then we’ll create a process to keep the “Veteran Memorial Book” up to date.
Here’s a laundry list of volunteer projects:
1) touch-up paint in various spots (interior and exterior)
2) scan paper files
3) ghost-write articles
4) serve on a committee (e.g., building maintenance committee and sub-committee, scholarship committee, special finance committee and sub-committee, newsletter committee)
5) special Young Professional Advisory committee to advise the Commander
