NVC Commander's Column

December 2021, Volume 71, Issue 11

The pandemic continues to hamper everyone’s efforts to return to some sense of pre-covid days.  Regardless, we’ve had quite a year.

The construction of a new Wall of Remembrance reflecting the names of 36K American service members at the Korean War Veterans Memorial started in March. In April, our neighbors at Friends of Little Saigon asked if we would host COVID-19 vaccination events in April and May at the Memorial Hall. We helped dispense over 250 vaccinations at both sessions.  We continued a long-time NVC tradition and held 76th Annual Memorial Day event (virtual) in May.

In July, the US Postal Service released the long-awaited commemorative stamp recognizing the WWII Nisei Soldier.  NVC was a stalwart participant with the National Veterans Network to plan and implement a three-day celebration about the WWII Nisei Soldier Experience exhibit at the National Museum of the US Army (August 26th - 28th).

Earlier this year Charlie Company (C Co) reflagged to Joint-Base Lewis McChord. In November, we hosted the soldiers from C Co, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442 Regiment, US Army Reserve. The pandemic has not dampened our ability to continue our mission to embrace our community and honor and carry on the legacy of the Nisei soldier both locally and nationally.

Thank you for your support and involvement over the past year.  Happy New Year!
