Colonel Stan Seo, a life member of the Nisei Veterans Committee (NVC) and the Commanding Officer of the 122nd Public Affairs Operations Center (122nd), presented a commemorative plaque to the NVC on behalf of the soldiers of the 122nd in appreciation of our support. One of the notable items in the plaque is the U.S. Flag, which was flown in Kabul, Afghanistan, where COL Seo and some of the 122nd were posted at Forward Operating base HKIA.
Additional gifts were presented to NVC Commander Walt Tanimoto and Past NVC Commander Keith Yamaguchi. Keith and Mary Ann Yamaguchi were the driving force in supporting the 122nd with care packages throughout their deployment. The COVID-19 restrictions prevented us from meeting with the 122nd earlier; however, on December 24, 2021 we were able to have a very small gathering at the NVC Memorial Hall.

When the NVC found out COL Seo, one of our veteran life members, was deploying to Afghanistan with the 122nd, we adopted the unit to show our support for their deployment to the Southwest Asia area of responsibility in 2019. The 122nd redeployed back to the United States in the March – April 2020 time frame just as the COVID-19 restrictions were enacted.
The Nisei Veterans Committee did not have the opportunity to welcome the 122nd home, but we still want to recognize their service during their deployment to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Syria. We anticipate an event celebrating the 122nd when the COVID-19 restrictions allow for large gatherings.
The NVC thanks COL Seo and the 122nd for the distinctive gift! The NVC also thanks the members of both the NVC and NVC Foundation, as well as the community, for all your support to the 122nd and veterans!
