Alfred Naosuke Sakamoto

Alfred Naosuke (Nibs, Al) Sakamoto, 91, passed away peacefully in his home in Bellevue, WA on October 21, 2020. He was preceded in death by Atsuko Dorothy (Atch), his first wife of 35 years and mother of his children, and by his sister Chizuko Akita and brother Joseph Sakamoto. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, sister Hatsune, daughter Lori and son Garner. He is also survived by four granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

Nibs was born in Seattle. He was incarcerated in Minidoka, ID, during WWII. After the war, the family briefly moved to Burlington, IA. He served in the Korean War, attended the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill and graduated in Chemical Engineering. He had a long professional career at Boeing. After retirement, he moved to Seabeck, WA. The past 11 years, Nibs and Jackie snowbirded between Bellevue, WA and Sun Lakes, AZ.

Nibs was active at Blaine United Methodist Church for 70 years. In 2013, he participated in his first Minidoka Pilgrimage and never missed the annual summer event after that. He reveled in the opportunity to introduce additional family members to the experience each year. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blaine United Methodist Church or The Minidoka Pilgrimage.
