NVC Children’s Christmas Party: Tradition Lives On

by Chris and Colleen Sketchley
January 2020, Volume 70, Issue 1

The Children’s Christmas party a 72-year old tradition continues to be a special time for children and families in our community. Memories of attending this Christmas party are a common thread that links all the generations in the Japanese American community. The NVC Children’s Christmas Party has been attended by thousands of people throughout the years and we are thrilled to be able to continue the tradition for the next generation.

The faces of all the smiling kids who attended this year’s Christmas party tell the whole story. The party started off with food and drink, face painting and crafts. Eric Haines from Leap Frog Entertainment had the kids (and the adults!!) watching in awe and everyone had a great time! The magic show was followed by a visit from our guest of honor SANTA, which of course was a huge hit with the kids! There is nothing like experiencing the magic of Christmas through the eyes of the kids…we would love to have you experience this for yourselves at next year’s Christmas party. Please invite your friends and family next year.

We want to give a special thanks to Ats Kiuchi for his donation, and to Rod Dembowski and King County Department of Community and Human Services for their grant, which funded in part this year’s Children’s Christmas party.

This party would not have been possible without all the wonderful support of SO many volunteers. Thank you to all of you who come out every year to support this event!
