The Nisei Lunch is an event that I truly appreciate. I feel a deep sense of gratitude to NVC/NVCF for their thoughtfulness in continuing to remember and honor us Nisei with such a special event every month. I'm sure I can safely speak for all the guests, but the Lunch provides a wonderful opportunity for us to get together. After all, some of us who are now in our 70's, 80's and beyond have very limited social activities that we are able to attend for one reason of another. As the old song goes, we just "Don’t Get Around Much Anymore".
So it is that I really look forward to the first Friday of every moth to visit with many friends who I otherwise would not see. It is also a real pleasure to meet many Nisei in our community for the very first time, as well as the wonderful Sansei, Yonsei and perhaps Gosei volunteers.
Chef Terry Takeuchi's meals, so carefully planned and prepared, are always such a treat! A refreshing salad precedes the hearty main course, followed by a delicious dessert. Sometimes, we're even treated to a special dessert prepared by one of the volunteers!
After lunch, we guests get a chance to test our hearing and visual acuities and our finger dexterity by participating in several round of Bingo!
The Nisei Lunch definitely promotes wellness activities that are so essential for seniors to remain healthy -- social interaction, sharing meals with good company, and just relaxing and spending an enjoyable afternoon with friends.
I extend a great big "THANK YOU" to NVC/NVCF for adding the Nisei Lunch to their already extensive program of activities; to Chef Terry for his dedication and commitment to preparing the healthful meals, and also for his generosity in sharing his recipes from time to time in the NVC Newsletter; and to the many volunteers, each and every one of them, who take time out from their busy schedules to assist Chef Terry in the kitchen and in the dining area, always with a warm smile!
I hope to see some of you Nisei, who have not yet attended, at the next Nisei Lunch!
