Frank T. Hidaka - NVC Lifetime Member

Frank T. Hidaka was born on November 19, 1918 in Seattle, WA. He passed away peacefully on February 6, 2014 in Renton, WA. Frank studied engineering at the University of Washington, but shortly before he was to graduate, World War II broke out, and he met and married Teresa Takisaki. While incarcerated at Minidoka, Frank completed his Civil Engineering degree through UW correspondence courses. After leaving camp for Spokane, Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with the 442nd RCT in Italy. After discharge, Frank returned to the Northwest and was hired by the U.S. Forest Service, then the U.S. Geological Survey. Thus began his long career as a hydrologist in the Water Resources Division. Frank was active, going razor clamming, foraging for matsutake, salmon fishing, as well as jigging for squid and smelt.

He is survived by his five children: Fr. Ron Hidaka, S.J., Mary Jane Patterson (Paul), Joanne Hidaka (Ben Niedermeyer), Sharon Daly (Tim), and Bob Hidaka (Julie Reid); four grandchildren: Nick Patterson, Sam Niedermeyer, Craig and Christine Daly; sisters: Amy Omatsu and Pat Tanagi. He is preceded in death by Teresa, his wife of 62 years, sister Mary Hidaka, brothers Tom Hidaka, and Harry Hidaka, granddaughter Kiki, and grandson Ian. The family wishes to thank the staff at Merrill Gardens for their wonderful care and support.
