Welcome all to a Day of Remembrance Program for a Ceremony of Remembrance followed by a Ceremony of Solidarity
Tsuru for Solidarity, Minidoka Pilgrimage Planning Committee, Puyallup Valley JACL, and Seattle JACL welcome all to a Day of Remembrance program on Saturday, February 18 for a Ceremony of Remembrance at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup at 11:00 am PT followed by a Ceremony of Solidarity at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma at 1:00 pm PT.
81 years ago, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which lead to the forced removal and indefinite incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans from the West Coast and beyond. One of the temporary detention sites was at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, where we will hold a Ceremony of Remembrance.
Another federal detention site exists today for migrants held by ICE at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, where we will hold a Ceremony of Solidarity.
