Shane Sato, “The Go for Broke Spirit: Portraits of Courage”

Photographer Shane Sato has been capturing images of Japanese American World War II veterans for more than 20 years. The Seattle Channel as part of their feature-magazine show CityStream will premiere the documentary photo shoot of Nisei Veterans by Shane Sato.

With contemporary controversies surrounding immigration, Sato has made it his mission to memorialize the legacy of what Japanese-Americans sacrificed for their country and to preserve the story of World War II incarceration and decades of racial discrimination.

This documentary features the photo shoot of Nisei Veterans, Shig Otani, 552nd veteran, Shig Tanagi, MIS, Fred Shiosaki 442 and Jimmy Kanaya 442 who will be part of Shane’s second book to be released in Fall, 2019.

The story will be narrated by local broadcast journalist Lori Matsukawa.

You can find Seattle Channel on cable channel 21 on Comcast and Wave.  Or on channel 8003 on CenturyLink.  The show will be posted on the Seattle Channel’s website on November 8th:

This CityStream 30 minute story will air at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 8th. Don’t miss this fascinating tribute to our Nisei Veterans.
